WIDE AREA RADIO SYSTEM MAINTENANCE CONTRACT AWARDED TO LOCAL SMALL BUSINESS
Oak Ridge Company Awarded $1.9 Million Contract

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Oak Ridge Office (ORO) recently awarded a $1.9 million contract to G2 Engineering and Management, Inc. (G2) for the oversight and operation of ORO’s Wide Area Radio System (WARS). The contract, which became effective on February 1, 2008, consists of one base year with 2 one-year options.

“We are always pleased to have the opportunity to show our commitment to small businesses such as G2, which provide services to support the Oak Ridge Office,” said ORO Manager Gerald Boyd.

WARS provides DOE with integrated, state-of-the-art, wireless portable radio communications for all users on the Oak Ridge Reservation and functions as a uniform communication system. This system has the capability to link with other federal facilities in the Oak Ridge area and to connect the ORO sites with state and local government agencies. The operation and maintenance of WARS is an integral part of DOE’s communication infrastructure during emergency situations. It provides a source of immediate communication to first responders and emergency personnel, which helps to facilitate an effective response to the community.

“DOE is committed to ensuring the public’s safety during an emergency. WARS is not only an effective tool for routine communication, but a necessity during emergency situations on the Oak Ridge Reservation,” Boyd said.

G2 is a U.S. Small Business Administration 8(a)-certified small disadvantaged business based in Oak Ridge. It is operated under the leadership of President/CEO Michael Twine.
